Music2Life designs music-based, social-change experiences that inspire people to act. Founded in 2000 by Noel Paul Stookey (Peter, Paul & Mary) and his daughter, Liz Stookey Sunde, Music2Life began as a national social-change songwriting contest. We have since grown into a nonprofit creative production group, tailoring our visioning and development process to the goals of businesses and organizations that seek to move hearts and minds around an issue or toward a common goal. As a result, we have built trusted relationships with caring and committed artists who walk their talk, and we have partnered with forward-thinking business leaders who want their efforts for positive social change to have an impact.

When a song moves listeners emotionally around an issue, it can build community and activism like no other medium. Music2Life thrives on leveraging the power of music to activate socially conscious consumers and help them become a force for social good. We are also witnessing an unprecedented confluence of online access, music sharing, consumer consciousness and social activism, making this perhaps the most opportune time in history to effect positive change through music.

We have worked with schools (such as Penn State, the University of Southern California and Dartmouth College), associations (such as the FutureWork Institute and the National Conference on Race & Ethnicity), and companies and nonprofits (such as Bloomberg, OMEGA Institute and the GRAMMY Museum).

Our current senior consulting team includes four professionals with a combined 100 years of experience in communications/media, nonprofit leadership, program development, project management, event production and entertainment. Additionally, Music2Life taps a global network of advisors and partners that extend our expertise into critical resource areas.

Elizabeth Stookey Sunde, Co-Founder, Executive Director

Liz draws on 20 years of experience in communication, organizational development and fundraising to guide the vision of Music2Life, co-founded with her father, Noel Paul Stookey. Her ability to navigate the business and policy issues affecting nonprofits helps the team stay focused on its mission—to support the use of music for social good. Liz manages the production of education programs, documentaries, national songwriting contests and entertainment-outreach events, including the recent Music2Life national road tour.

Daniel Affeldt, Business Director

In his 30-year career, Dan has enjoyed success in the corporate world and as an entrepreuneur, but it was as director of a well-known West Village music venue that he came to appreciate the power of music for social change. Now, as an independent business consultant, Dan applies his strategic expertise in marketing, business development and planning to a variety of projects, including the growth of Music2Life.

Shane Verstegen, Technical Director

A new-media evangelist and technology developer, Shane operates Texas-based Acuity Solutions, serving clients across the U.S. The firm has designed and produced many interactive applications—including Shane’s own labor of love, Soul of the Song—and brings all of its considerable experience to the development, programming and hosting of our online music-discovery tool, website and multimedia programs.

Ashley Pound, Content and Creative Director

A veteran editor and creative director, Ashley has worked with leading publishers, commercial businesses and nonprofits to develop lifestyle and entertainment magazines, custom publications, and web and social media sites. In addition to contributing to our strategic planning and programs, Ashley develops our web design and content, event promotional materials, and manages our social media outreach.
